Finding the balance point

So far in my life I’ve found it a struggle to find the middle ground. Life has either felt incredibly great one moment or horrific the next. And as I’m getting older I realise more and more that opposites can exist at the same time. And in fact, they’re supposed to. Light and shadow are meant to be friends. The Universe is always looking to bring us into balance, so we need both signs of the coin for this to happen. If life was all light then that would be imbalance and the same for the shadow. In fact I’m coming to realise that both are present to bring us back to wholeness. I realise that most of the clients I see have been too overtaken by their shadow, and I believe it is my work to bring their light out. To aid in this bringing back to wholeness. So in fact, it’s not just focussing purely on the light or focusing purely on the shadow but accepting both of them as they are. And accepting that they can both be present at the same time.

There is a constant flux between these two opposites in life. Constant contraction and expansion between the two. And this is what brings the balance, the wholeness. But how do we learn to accept both of these polarities and bring them to work together? The answer came quite simply to me. We merely have to dance. Dance with both the light and the shadow. Accept them both as equal dance partners, different yes but equal. Come to understand how they come into rhythm with each other. And in learning to dance with life, we find the breath, the play, the space to enjoy each and every moment it brings us.

So next time you feel lost. You feel the joy of life but also the sorrow. The greatness but also the terror. I urge you to scoop up all those feelings. Hold them tight in your arms and dance. Dance with them until the early hours.

And in finding the art of the dance, we can learn to find ourselves once more.
